CODE OF CONDUCT

The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to ensure that all students understand their reights and responsibilities, as well as the procedures for dealing with any violations of the code of conduct. All participants involved in the BELLA DONNA refinement school, are subject to this code of conduct whether they are on the school premises, on school transport or at school authorized events excursions or activities or any activity or event of whatsoever nature related to or in connection with the school.  It is expected of all lecturers and administrators to enforce the code of conduct and abide by its intent and spirit.

  1. Student responsibilities

All the students have the responsibility to:

 

-         Arrive for classes on time. Students who enter a classroom after a lesson has  begun are interfering with the rights of others to learn and study. Punctuality is a habit that students must develop if they are to succeed in the workplace. Students that arrive late may be barred from attending the particular lecture.

-         Complete all in-class and homework assignments, tests, attend all compulsory activities and meet deadlines.  The responsibility for student learning does nor rest solely with the lecturer. Education cannot be effective unless students participate in class and compete outside assignments. Unsatisfactory and/or late assignments or tests or non attendance of compulsory activities may lead to students not qualifying for the certificate in the particular module.

-         Obey all school and academic rules as stipulated in agreements, study guides, the student manual, notices, announcements, brochures, the code of conduct and similar communication. The requirements for the successful completion of a particular module will be set out in the study guide or student manual or otherwise communicated to the student by the particular lecturer.

-         Co-operate with school staff and lecturers and be courteous to everyone who works at the school

-         Treat one another, lecturers, staff members and visitors with dignity and respect at all times, especially in cases of disagreement.

-         Keep the classrooms, ablution facilities, school premises and all other premises used in connection with the school activities, functions and excursions clean and tidy.

-         Provide truthful information when information is requested.

-         Respect and treat others fairly, regardless of their race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, culture or disability.

-         Use non-violent means to resolve conflict. Physically aggressive behaviour is totally unacceptable.

 

  1. General Violations.

-         In cases of alleged violations of the code of conduct students will be subject to a disciplinary hearing.

-         In instances where students are found guilty of any violation of the code of conduct they will face, depending on the seriousness of the transgression, oral warning, written warning, parent notification, suspension from participation of predetermined classes or activities, refusal of admission to any examination or test occasion, which includes forfeiture of any marks already obtained and the cancellation of any subject or course unit, expulsion from the school, payment for any damages or loss or costs caused by the student, or other appropriate punishment.

-         The following are in particular prohibited.

 

-         Damaging property: Vandalizing, damaging or destroying of school, lecturers’ staff members’ or other students’ property on the school premises, including but not limited to, equipment, books, materials, furniture, buildings, grounds, plants, cars and buses.

-         Theft: Taking the property of another without permission. This applies whether the property belongs to another student, a staff member a lecturer or the school.

-         Disobedience and disrespect: Students are required to obey school rules and to respect the authority of lecturers and other school personnel.

-         Disorderly behavior: Disorderly conduct including, but not limited to, intoxication, lewd, indecent or obscene or unruly behavior on school-owned or controlled property or at school sponsored functions/activities/excursions; conduct that is unreasonable in the time, place or manner in which it occurs; and/or obstruction or disruption of school sponsored activities.

-         Alcohol: Use, possession, or distribution of alcoholic beverages, except when authorized by the school for a particular function or for educational purposes, on school premises or school-owned or controlled property or at school sponsored functions, excursions or activities are prohibited. Furthermore, the sale, distribution, or procurement of alcoholic beverages for anyone who is under the age of 18, public disruption due to intoxication or drunkenness; the use of false identification to procure alcohol, and the possession on school premises of any type of paraphernalia associated with the consumption of alcohol is expressly prohibited.

-         Drugs: Use, possession, distribution or the manufacture or narcotic or dangerous drugs or of any illegal or controlled substances, except as expressly permitted by law, on school-owned or controlled property or at school sponsored functions/activities.  Furthermore, the students are prohibited from having in their possession whilst on the school premises or when attending any school function, excursion or activity any type of paraphernalia analogous with the use, distribution, or sale of illegal substances/narcotics, or sale i.e.(Scales, bongs, pipes, etc.).

-         Weapons: Possession, display, use of distribution of any weapon such as a firearm. knife, etc., or any item used as a weapon or of such a nature that it is intended for use as a weapon, except with expressed school authorization, on school premises or at school functions, excursions or activities.

-         Fire Safety: Tampering with or misuse of fire alarms, fire exits, fire fighting equipment  smoke/heat detectors and sprinkler systems on school premises or at functions or school activities; causing or creating a fire; and the use of all open flame devices such as, but not limited to, sternos, incense, kerosene lamps, failure to evacuate the  building when a fire alarm sounds; and the use of any and all fireworks.

-         Profanity: The use of profane and vulgar expressions (oral, written, non-verbal e.g.; gestures), including those communicated or displayed on clothing, on school premises or at school functions, excursions or activities.

-         Threats, harassment, hazing, intimidation or blackmail: Threats of force, threats of injury, harassment, intimidation, blackmail, and hazing are forbidden. Hazing is any activity that humiliates, degrades, abuses or endangers another person, regardless of the person’s willingness to participate. Physical verbal or written harassment or abuse of any person, or any other conduct which threatens or endangers the physical, emotional health, or safety of any person on school premises or at school excursions, functions and activities.

-         Sexual Harassment/misconduct of a sexual nature: Comments, threats, conversations, coercion, actions, jokes, teasing, or intimidation when they are of a sexual nature and are unwelcome by those exposed to them, whether they are members of the public, staff member, lecturers, visitors, or other students, are forbidden. Any student (or the parent/legal guardian or a student) who believes that she has been subjected to such behaviour must immediately contact the school principal to report the behavior.

-         Academic dishonesty: Academic dishonesty is any act, which allows a student to gain an unfair advantage over other students. This includes, but is not limited to copying, plagiarism, collaboration, alteration of records, use of restricted aids, unauthorized use of proprietary material, bribery, and lying.

-         Criminal acts: All acts which are prohibited by law and constitutes a crime.

-         Dishonesty: Dishonesty in any form.

-         Assault: Assault or any act of violence.

-         Detrimental conduct: Any conduct which is detrimental or may be detrimental to the good name, order , discipline or performance of the work or the school or of any part of the school, including any office bearer, supporter, member of staff or student thereof.

-         Racism: Any conduct which amounts to any form of racism, in whatever form and whether directly or by implication.

 

3.  Dress Code

The primary objective of BELLA DONNA is to provide for every student a learning environment that underlies the school’s vision and mission. The personal appearance of every student is an important component of establishing an environment that reflects our values of respect, courtesy and discipline. Students are expected to dress in an appropriate manner while on the school property or during school functions, excursions or activities or representing the school, Personal appearance shall be such that does not disrupt student work or school order, become distractive to other students or violate health and safety guidelines.

 

4. Rights reserved by the school

 

-         BELLA DONNA reserves the right to notify parents of a student’s violation fo the code of conduct irrespective of whether the student is a major,

-         BELLA DONNA holds students responsible for all losses and damages caused to the school’s property.

-         BELLA DONNA reserves the right to amend the Code of Conduct at any time and will the amendment come into operation 7 days after notice of such amendment was given to the students.
